Behind The Jewels: Sade Jennings of MFABI

Since launching our business in 2008, we’ve had a few office moves, two weddings, two babies, and built a small-but-mighty team of 14. A lot happens under our roof here in Soho, including the design, production, and shipping of our collections. We’re so thankful to all of the talented hands and minds behind the jewels and we’re excited to spotlight them!

Meet Sade Jennings of MFABI Fulfillment! The brain behind our warehouse and overall systems-expert-logistics-genius-angel.

After 10+ years of packing boxes ourselves, manually counting inventory, relying on clunky systems, and often overselling a product (sorry friends!), we knew it was time for a major infrastructure upgrade. Sade has an incredible background working in logistics for companies from Bauble Bar to Tarte Cosmetics and came in with a plan – and always a smile. Fast forward 9 months and we have a mini LFJ warehouse – and a team of Sade’s crew (led by Carmen, another logistics expert) who track, barcode, scan, pick, process and ship all our inventory. We chatted with Sade to learn a little bit more about her business, what gets her up in the AM, and advice she has for other aspiring entrepreneurs.

Travel With The Twins To Portugal

If you know and follow us, you might know we LOVE Portugal. Kathryn got engaged the night after her first ever trip there; she proceeded to get married an hour south of Lisbon; and we’ve returned to this special country many times – including with kids in tow last summer. Plus, the incredible landscape – think azure seas that match the deep blue summer sky – and graphic, colorful painted tiles served as the inspiration for our Spring/Summer’23 collection.

So in the spirit of sharing our travel inspiration, here’s some intel on one of our favorite destinations.

Travel With The Twins To Jaipur

In December of 2022 we took a very quick trip to Jaipur, India to meet with our partners (goldsmiths who work on our 14k gold assortmentstone vendors, and small workshops that craft select pieces and components from the collection). It was a fast trip, made shorter by a missed connection in Delhi (give yourself lots of time – the terminals are very far apart!) We arrived in the late morning with a full day of work ahead so we were delighted to have strong coffee and a delightful outdoor breakfast at our lovely boutique hotel, 47 Jobner Bagh.

The trip was quick, the city was buzzing, and there was plenty of inspiration to be had from the flower markets, to the architecture, to the gems!

Travel With The Twins To Cuba

We recently spent a long weekend in Cuba and were absolutely enchanted by the rich culture, lively colors, stunning architecture, and most welcoming people. We loved talking with our guides about the country’s complex history and felt so grateful to have our eyes opened to this most special place.

Our travel there was remarkably easy (we flew American Airlines through Miami, where we purchased Visas), and we stayed at a guest house instead of a government-operated hotel, so we were able to benefit the hosts and had the advantage of local residents to assist with currency exchange, taxi arrangements, and the other logistics of traveling in Cuba!

Travel With The Twins To Antigua

This year, we gave our family the gift of travel, and we spent the holidays in Antigua. A sub-4 hour direct flight from NYC (a huge plus when traveling with kids) and consistently beautiful 80 degree weather, made this an easy & fabulous way to recharge before returning to work in the New Year.

When preparing for the trip we reached out to our friend Taylor at Coco Shopa brand of dreamy dresses and separates that was founded in Antigua. Not only did we enjoy wearing lots of gorgeous Coco Shop pieces on vacay, but Taylor also tipped us off to some favorite restaurants, beaches, and activities. More of our recs below!
