Kathryn & I are so lucky to have the most amazing mom. She travels with us, shops with us, chats with us, cooks with (er, for) us, and is the model of everything we could hope to be in a mother.

Our mom has passed the bar, run marathons, founded a venture philanthropy organization to invest in early childhood education, raised three children, and currently directs Campbell Soup Company’s Healthy Communities program, a philanthropic mission that aims to reduce childhood obesity and hunger in Camden, NJ. Quite the role model, huh?

In honor of mom this year we’re offering free domestic shipping on all Lizzie Fortunato purchases through next Wednesday, May 6 with the code MOM:

Small Business, Big Table

We were so excited to let Elle Magazine come into my Clinton Hill home recently and share brunch with us and some of our favorite mover-and-shaker girlfriends.

Elle 1

Kathryn & I often talk about how many of our (entrepreneurial!) girlfriends are separated by only a degree or two, and we love connecting them to share ideas and collaborate. Dinner parties can be tricky in NYC but when we moved to Clinton Hill, we finally had room for people to gather and a “Creative Women” dinner series began to emerge. We were delighted to share one of these meals with Cotton Codinha, who wrote a lovely piece about the women who inspire us and get us through the daily trials and triumphs of running a small business. The adorable Lianna Tarantin captured some wonderful shots of us with our friends, enjoying brunch (beautifully prepared by Simone Nemirovsky of Table BK), and sitting amongst some of our favorite Fortune Finds.

Our guests at this particular brunch (though at this point there have been many wonderful gatherings!) included florist Taylor Patterson who created beautiful arrangements for our table, Jenny Capano of The Sporting Project, Fallon Nachmani, who recently founded Grayscale PR (and represents yours truly!), Fallon’s incredibly talented sister Simone of Table BK, the fine artist Mary Nelson Sinclair, Elisa Restrepo – one half of the Dieppa Restrepo shoe line, Stacy Smallwood of Hampden Clothing in Charleston, SC, and Erica Cerulo of Of A Kind. We are so grateful to know such cool women and love getting them together… and a big thanks to Elle for giving us yet another excuse to talk shop with the females that inspire us!

The Ultimate Dad + An Epic Inspiration Trip

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. My dad has always been one of the hardest-working, inspiring, and adventuresome guys I know. One of my favorite things about him is his ceaseless energy and appetite for exploration. He’s always putting us kids to shame when it comes to extreme sports; in February we spent his 60th birthday in Tortola, a British Virgin Island that’s still relatively rustic and known for it’s surf breaks:

Tortola 1My first trip to Tortola was in elementary school and I’ve been back many times over the years with friends and family. The totally unassuming nature of the island paired with it’s incredible beauty makes it such a wonderful place to visit. The water is crystal blue and the people are so happy and kind; Who wouldn’t be living in a place like this?

Tortola 2

Tortola also inspired my Resort ’16 designs, which drew on the bright, sun-drenched palette of the island and easy nonchalance of Caribbean living:

A sneak peek of the Resort 2016 collection below. Buyers just previewed the new assortment and it will be in stores in late fall. I already can’t wait to wear the LOVE clutch; it’s an all-time favorite!

Thank you to our dad for being so awesome, inspiring, and for such an incredible trip!

TBT: Telluride Bluegrass Festival

Being a fan of both bluegrass (I live with a music connoisseur after all) and the mountains (Kathryn and I grew up rock climbing in Telluride) I was so excited to visit the Telluride Bluegrass Festival earlier this summer. It did not disappoint.

telluride1

We of course listened to some incredible music (Robert Earl KeenTelluride House Band, Rhiannon Giddens, Lake Street Dive, Sam Bush Band, Kacey Musgraves, and Ry Cooder, Sharon White & Ricky Skaggs were among the favorites), but also spent some wonderful time in the most beautiful canyon with great friends and our brother (who is always en route to a far flung destination or a concert)!
telluride2

It was an amazing long weekend of hand clapping, foot stomping, festival food, and margaritas in to-go cups.
I can’t wait to return next summer.

Getaway: SF and West Marin

$

A long weekend in San Francisco & West Marin a few weeks ago provided a lot of inspiration, new discoveries, and culinary delights:

Cali 6

We packed so much in to the weekend — driving up from Mountainview (where Peter has been spending a lot of time), scoping out stores and restaurants in San Francisco and Oakland, and finally enjoying a delightful two days in West Marin: Tomales Bay, Point Reyes, and Inverness.

The highlights:

Favorite place in SF to start the day (read: toast & lattes):
The Mill

Best gift store, San Francisco (where I just wanted to shop for myself):
Reliquary

Post-shopping take out lunch to die for:
Souvla in Hayes Valley

Stay balanced with skin treatments from:
Kristina Holey

Drink fancy cocktails and dance your face off:
Starline Social Club in Oakland

Best dinner stop en route to West Marin (maybe best dinner of the year period):
Sir and Star at the Olema
*order the dinner roll appetizer!

Place to book ahead (and sleep well!) in Inverness:
Manka’s Inverness Lodge

Incredibly above-average diner breakfast in Point Reyes Station:
The Pine Cone Diner

Best place to pick up lunch:
Cowgirl Creamery in Point Reyes

Best afternoon snack:
Hog Island Oysters
*don’t forget the champagne, and bring your dog!

Dinner Date in Inverness:
Saltwater Oyster Depot

Favorite way to work off all the cheese and oysters:
Hike to the end of Point Reyes

…and Feel like you’re at the end of the world:
Visit the Point Reyes Lighthouse

These type of weekend adventures necessitate strategic packing (I have to fit numerous necklaces and running shoes in a carry-on, and prepare for a climate that can vary thirty degrees in a day). And so my clothing selections are solid colors, comfortable, and take me from day to night.

Favorites? My Shaina Mote Garendo Pants and my Apiece Apart fisherman sweater:

The celebration for our bestie, Kate (designer extraordinaire) began with a gals trip to Miami, where we ate at Mandolin, drank at The Edition, discovered Little Havana at Ball and Chain, and jumped in the ocean.

Miami

Thanks to the epic Morgan Pilcher for carrying along a waterproof camera and capturing the fun

Kate married her extraordinary fiancé Ben on a working ranch in Colorado, where Kate, Kathryn and I have spent much time together over the years. In the days before the ceremony we hiked, explored, and hung out with some cowboys… It was as much a true vacation as it was a destination wedding:

rodeo

scenes from Rodeo in Snowmass, Colorado; Peter and I do our best Western getups and guests cheer the soon-to-be newlyweds. All photos by the very talented Olivia Rae James

Kathryn and I toasted Kate and Ben with a (rhyming) speech on the top of Aspen mountain during the couple’s welcome picnic the day before the ceremony. The love was palpable and the views breathtaking:

picnic

Moroccan blankets, British bites (in honor of Ben), and a trio of folk musicians completed the welcome picnic where Kathryn and I told tales of Kate’s past. All photos by Olivia Rae James.

Part of the joy of Kate and Ben’s wedding was all the love and hands-on-participation. Arturo, the incredible ranch manager, was building out their “Festival” till right before Kate walked down the aisle (a field of grass that he mowed a pathway in); I painted table signs and an oversized balloon for the base of the long, dusty drive:

prep

Dedication to the “Festival” cause captured by Olivia Rae James

The result of all the effort and care that went into Kate and Ben’s June 26th festival was spectacular. The significance of the day – on which the Supreme Court ruled to legalize same sex marriage – did not go unnoticed. There was truly love all around:

Kate and Ben let us all in on a wonderful celebration, where their appetite for adventure, desire for fun, and incredible love for one another was contagious. Here’s to the next steps of the journey for these two insatiable explorers!

We just showed the SS16 collection to buyers and editors in NYC and will travel to Paris next week to do the same there. I have been working on this new collection for months and am so excited to see it finally materialized.

Inspired by Gaugin’s Tahitian paintings and the Western, “cowgirl” motifs, the new Spring styles introduce elements like Native American conchos, wood pendants, and tons of turquoise.

ss16 inspiration

We had a blast shooting with Jason Ross Savage (Anna Schilling modeled; Victor Noble made her up beautifully; and Sebastian Pataric styled). I’m so thrilled to share some of the results:
