The celebration for our bestie, Kate (designer extraordinaire) began with a gals trip to Miami, where we ate at Mandolin, drank at The Edition, discovered Little Havana at Ball and Chain, and jumped in the ocean.
Thanks to the epic Morgan Pilcher for carrying along a waterproof camera and capturing the fun
Kate married her extraordinary fiancé Ben on a working ranch in Colorado, where Kate, Kathryn and I have spent much time together over the years. In the days before the ceremony we hiked, explored, and hung out with some cowboys… It was as much a true vacation as it was a destination wedding:

Kathryn and I toasted Kate and Ben with a (rhyming) speech on the top of Aspen mountain during the couple’s welcome picnic the day before the ceremony. The love was palpable and the views breathtaking:
Moroccan blankets, British bites (in honor of Ben), and a trio of folk musicians completed the welcome picnic where Kathryn and I told tales of Kate’s past. All photos by Olivia Rae James.
Part of the joy of Kate and Ben’s wedding was all the love and hands-on-participation. Arturo, the incredible ranch manager, was building out their “Festival” till right before Kate walked down the aisle (a field of grass that he mowed a pathway in); I painted table signs and an oversized balloon for the base of the long, dusty drive:

The result of all the effort and care that went into Kate and Ben’s June 26th festival was spectacular. The significance of the day – on which the Supreme Court ruled to legalize same sex marriage – did not go unnoticed. There was truly love all around:

Kate and Ben let us all in on a wonderful celebration, where their appetite for adventure, desire for fun, and incredible love for one another was contagious. Here’s to the next steps of the journey for these two insatiable explorers!
XO
